The Education Race

Our country is made up of complex systems that take a certain level of education to understand and to participate in. Being able to read at the highest level will allow individuals to potentially further their education and allow them to compete in a global economy that is not only highly competitive for the finest jobs but highly technical and specialized. The central mechanism for economic growth is having access to a highly educated workforce that can step in and perform their duties at a high level. Being able to do this falls back on basic circumstances that occur from birth through our formative years and in to later education. Reading literacy and education may be key to economic stimulus and comes from a workforce who has been prepared for these opportunities since they were born. Children that were elevated to reading at a young age by parents who realized  that reading with and to their child was inherently most important to their future educational growth, may have an opportunity of greater success.

As we prepare our children for the educational race, each family has a diverse set of circumstances to deal  with and a diverse background from which they came that plays a role in if or how we prepare our children for the marathon of life. Diversity is often cultural. Different cultures place different levels of extremist, educational logistics through the clamoring of their cultural philosophies which may determine the extent of pressure put on children in given cultural frameworks. Diversity can also be economic. If money is a regular burden, as it is with about 90% of the American population,  then educational opportunities may be held hostage to some extent by the all mighty dollar.  Families focus then become work, work, work and young children can suffer through lack of a focused, reading routine enacted by the parents.  Our economy plays a role, as Americans are especially enticed by the latest fad and gadget, whether or not we measure success and value by educational opportunities or by instant gratification. Sometimes instant gratification may be simply getting the rent paid this month.

Within this complex economic system, change plays a critical role and how individuals can adapt to these vexing moments in all of our lives. Educational levels and the ability to partake in continuous education may allow for certain individuals to transition in to new or more specialized employment as technology continues to expand. An individual who was reading at an early age with their parents and who may have had a more connective appreciation to reading and whose parents were opportunistic in the reading realm with their child at an early age, may be better prepared for a ubiquitous economy that is changing on a daily basis.

In a complex, diverse society as ours here in the United States, writing and understanding the importance of writing plays a role in how well we can communicate with all people in our unique aggregations and how successful we can interact with our employers. Some educators in the 21st century believe that the key to improved reading literacy is through great writing. I am one of those who is a proponent of this philosophy. So parents as we are reading with our very small children, let’s get a pencil, Ipad and laptop in front of them as soon as possible and write with our children as soon as we can. The next generation of writers will have to be not only great readers and communicators but there will be some kind of prolific change in our economy over the next 20 years that we have yet to hear of or understand that will surely make this world, yet more complex.
